A firefighter was injured after falling from the roof of a shed while firefighters responded to a massive fire at a storage facility in Pune’s Warje area on Wednesday morning.
It is said that the fire broke out at the facility in Dangat Patil Nagar area at 3.45 am. “There are stockpiles of items like bamboo, wooden planks, cloth and walls used to set up pandals and temporary stages. After receiving the information, we dispatched fire engines from nearby stations. Water was sprinkled from all sides to control the spread, said fire officer Prabhakar Umratkar.
“Firefighter Akshay Gaekwad climbed onto the roof of the shed to put out the fire in one part of the facility. It appears that a part of the tin roof was not sufficiently supported and it caved in and Gaikwad fell about 14 feet,” Umratkar added. Gaikwad suffered a broken shoulder and other injuries and was treated at a hospital. It is said to be happening.
After the fire was brought under control, a second cooling operation was carried out by sprinkling water to extinguish the fire.
Early on Wednesday, the Pune Fire Brigade also responded to another incident at a plywood storage facility in Mangadevadi area of ​​Katraj. The fire broke out around 4.30 am and fire engines including the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) were mobilized. The fire was brought under control after 30 minutes of efforts.
