Ambedkar Controversy: CPI, Congress and Dalit unions protested demanding Amit Shah’s resignation

Communist Party of India (CPI) and Congress party leaders protested at Ambedkar’s statue in front of the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Thursday (Dec 19) and demanded the immediate sacking of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the Cabinet for his ‘disrespectful’ remarks. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The protestors raised slogans calling Ambedkar the Messiah of Dalits and weaker sections and demanded the immediate removal of Shah.

AP Congress Committee president YS Sharmila strongly condemned the Home Minister’s comments about Ambedkar in X and said they stroke the BJP’s ego. “It is a grave insult to the Indian Constitution and it deeply hurts the sentiments of Dalits, Backward Classes and other minorities,” she said, alleging that “BJP is constantly attacking the Constitution because the party believes in Manusmriti”.

She demanded immediate removal of Amit Shah from the cabinet.

Before the protest, the Youth Congress leaders offered ‘Palabhishek’ to Ambedkar’s portrait.

Later, speaking to the media, Youth Congress NTR district unit president Peter Joseph said: “People who contested and won elections following the Constitution and who took oath in the name of the Constitution are now flouting it. Architect Dr BR Ambedkar.”

Senior Congress leaders Kolanukonda Shivaji, Meesla Rajeshwar Rao, former party general secretary SK Ansari, State Youth Congress General Secretary G Pawan and Praveen and others were present.

The representatives of various Dalit organizations also took to the streets protesting the Home Minister’s statement as ‘a mockery of Ambedkar, the Messiah of the poor and oppressed’.

Protesting at Shikmani Kendra in Vijayawada, they demanded the immediate removal of Mr. Amit Shah from the Union Cabinet and an unconditional apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
