Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court expressed its displeasure at the GHMC officials’ disdainful approach to address public grievances and lack of administration.
The court said that citizens’ trust has been lost because the civil bodies have neglected the problems of the people and focused more on revenue collection.
Justice K. Laxman lashed out at GHMC Commissioner K Ilambarithi, who was present in the court following the High Court’s directive on a plea that a cloth trader had broken the seal of the GHMC for unauthorized construction on a commercial property in Tolichokki. Similarly, the traders were doing business by breaking the seal.
When the court inquired, the officials of the corporation said that it was stopped due to the unilateral order of the civil court. However, after they agreed that their lawyers were not present three times when the civil court tried the case, the civil court issued a unilateral order.
Justice Laxman pulled up GHMC for spending money in court for not acting on complaints.
He also said that contempt cases are increasing as the authorities ignore the court order.
The judge directed the GHMC commissioner to organize awareness sessions for his staff about the provisions under the GHMC Act and the ongoing court cases. The court stressed that senior officials should ensure compliance with policies and effectively handle cases related to illegal construction.
