BJP’s Ram Shinde to become Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Council Mumbai News

BJP MLC Ram Shinde is set to become the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Council as he filed his nomination papers for the post during the winter session in Nagpur on Wednesday.

Since Shinde is the only candidate, his election is now only a formality. With Shinde’s election, the post of council chairman, which has been vacant since July 2022, will finally be filled. The post fell vacant after the then president of the undivided CPN Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar retired.

Shinde was accompanied by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister and NCP President Ajit Pawar and Minister and State BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Chandrakant Patil and BJP’s Jayakumar Rawal and Udaya Samant of the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde.

Absence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during the nomination process has raised eyebrows in the power corridor.

According to sources, Shinde was eyeing Deputy Speaker and MLC Neelam Gorhe for the post.
