Elderly couple dies in house fire in Safdarjung Enclave Delhi News

An elderly couple died when a fire broke out in a house on the third floor of a four-storey residential building in Safdarjung enclave on Wednesday morning, police said.

According to Delhi Fire Service, the incident was reported at 6.01 am and three fire tenders reached the spot.

80-year-old Govind Ram Nagpal and his wife Sela Nagpal (78) are among those who died. Govind was a retired employee of Kelvinator while Sheela Vidya was a retired employee of Niketan, police said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire spread from household items, which led to the death. β€œCrime and FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) teams have been called to the spot. Legal action has been initiated under Section 194 BNS,” said DCP (Southwest) Surendra Chaudhary.

The body of the deceased has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem. The police are investigating the incident further.

Vineet Nagpal, son of the deceased, lives in America and daughter lives in Paschim Vihar.
