The Punjab government informed the Supreme Court on Wednesday that extensive discussions were held with farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and other farmers who are on an indefinite fast in the Khanuri border. However, they refused to join the high-level committee formed by the court.
During the proceedings, Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh reported that the committee had given an invitation for talks on December 17, but Agitating farmers chose not to participate. Singh said the state government is making daily efforts to encourage farmers to engage in discussions and suggested that they can submit their demands directly to the court.
In response, the Supreme Court said, “We want to make it clear that the doors of the court are always open for any suggestion or demand of the farmers, whether directly or through their official representatives.” The court expressed concern over Dallewal’s health and asked the Punjab government to ensure that he gets medical attention immediately.
