Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (Dec 18, 2024) in his Rajya Sabha speech strongly defended Amit Shah against the Congress’ accusations of insulting BR Ambedkar, asserting that the Home Minister had indeed exposed the party’s “dark history of humiliation”. The makers of the constitution left the main opposition ‘shocked and shocked’.
“They are shocked and appalled by the clearly presented facts, so they are involved in the drama now. Sadly, for them, people know the truth,” Mr Modi said in a series of posts on X.
When it comes to Mr. Ambedkar, the honor and respect of his government is absolute, the Prime Minister asserted.
In a scathing attack on the Congress, Mr. Modi said that if the party and its “rotten ecosystem” could use their “malicious lies” to hide their years of misdeeds, especially their disdain for Ambedkar, then they are gravely mistaken.

He said that the people of India have seen time and again how a party led by a single dynasty, in the context of the Nehru-Gandhi family, has resorted to every possible dirty trick to erase Mr. Ambedkar’s legacy and humiliate the SC/ST community.
The Congress’ list of sins against Mr. Ambedkar included defeating him not once but twice in elections, first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru campaigning against him and making his defeat a prestige issue, refusing to award him the Bharat Ratna and not allowing him to be photographed. The Prime Minister said that Gaurav has a place of pride in the Central Hall of the Parliament.
He said, “Congress can try all they want but they cannot deny that the worst massacres against SC/ST communities took place under their rule. They stayed in power for years but did nothing concrete to empower SC and ST communities.” Mr Modi said it was because of Ambedkar that “we are what we are”, as he listed a series of measures his government had taken to implement his vision and honor the iconic figure.
He said his government has worked tirelessly to fulfill Mr. Ambedkar’s vision over the past decade.
“Take any sector – lifting 25 crore people out of poverty, strengthening the SC/ST Act, our government’s flagship programs like Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ujjwala Yojana and more, each of them has touched lives. Our government has helped the poor and Dr. Ambedkar has worked to develop the marginalized Panchtirth,” he added.
Mr. Modi said the disputed land issue for the “Chaityabhoomi” where Ambedkar was cremated has been going on for decades. He added, ‘Our government has not only solved the problem, I have also gone there to pray.
“We have also developed 26, Alipore Road in Delhi, where Dr Ambedkar spent his last years. The house where he lived in London has also been acquired by the government. When it comes to Dr Ambedkar, our respect and honor is absolute,” he said.
Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha saw protests from the Congress and some other opposition parties over Shah’s alleged insult to Ambedkar, resulting in the adjournment of both houses.
