Bhubaneswar: The body of a 70-year-old patient was found in a mysterious condition in the orthopedic ward of AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Monday night. It is said that Dilip Kumar Sahu of Atlapur village in Jajpur district was found hanging from the ceiling fan above the hospital bed.
Sahu was admitted to the orthopedic ward for treatment, but it was suspected that he had taken drastic measures in the middle of the night. The exact circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, raising questions about patient monitoring and safety protocols within the hospital.
Notably, 30 patients and 10 AIIMS staff were on duty in the ward at the time of the incident. Despite the presence of so many people, the incident seems to have gone unnoticed, prompting concern and criticism about the hospital’s vigilance and security measures.
The local police have seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. They refused to make any official statement about the cause of death, but the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are currently questioning the deceased’s daughter, nearby patients and hospital staff to piece together the sequence of events.
Meanwhile, AIIMS Bhubaneswar officials said the concrete cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report. They expressed their condolences to the family members and promised full cooperation in the investigation.
Further details of the investigation and post-mortem report are yet to come as the police are still investigating.
