Death in caravan: Carbon monoxide poisoning confirmed

Vadakara police confirmed carbon monoxide poisoning in the death of two people inside a caravan parked at Vadakara in Kozhikode on Monday night.

District Police Chief (Kozhikode Rural) Nidhinraj P Hindu Doctors observed that the internal organs of both the deceased were red in color, a known symptom of carbon monoxide poisoning. “I inspected the vehicle in question and found a generator inside. This may have emitted gas, which may have subsequently been trapped in the air-conditioning system,” said Mr. Nidhin Raj.

The deceased have been identified as Manoj, 49, of Vaniyambalam, Malappuram, and Joel, 26, of Nedumchan, Kannur, the driver and cleaner of the caravan. They had parked their vehicle at Karimpanapalam near Vadakara on Sunday and were apparently sleeping.

Caravan belongs to a logistics company in Malappuram. He was returning after leaving the marriage group in Kannur. Locals informed the police after seeing the caravan at the same place for two consecutive days.

After investigation and post-mortem, the body has been handed over to the relatives.
