A taxi jumped the sidewalk and hit pedestrians outside a Macy’s department store on Christmas Day in New York when the taxi driver had a medical episode, New York police said.
At least seven people were injured Wednesday in an incident in midtown Manhattan near Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square, police said. The crash site is at the corner of West 34th Street and Avenue of the Americas, or Sixth Avenue.
The store is decorated in full detail for Christmas and New Year’s and is a point of attraction for tourists and New Yorkers during the holiday season.

The taxi driver who suffered the medical episode is 58 years old. Among the injured are two women aged 49 and four other women aged 19, 37 and 41, along with a 9-year-old child, police said.
Three of the seven injured people have been taken to the hospital for treatment. A 9-year-old boy’s throat was cut, a 49-year-old woman’s leg was injured, and a 41-year-old woman’s head was injured.
Three other people who were injured in the accident refused treatment, while all the injuries were not life-threatening, police added.
Photos of the taxi show parts and dents from the taxi as the crash damaged the vehicle.
