The Undi police of West Godavari district are trying to link a woman from Yendagandi village to the sensational incident where the dead body was delivered from the parcel.
An investigating officer, on condition of anonymity, said that the accused T. Siddharth Verma alias Sridhar Verma tried to threaten woman Sagi Tulsi by sending a dead body from a parcel over a property dispute. It is alleged that he killed Barre Parlyah, a day laborer from Kalla village who abandoned his family.
Police believe that the suspect may have chosen Parlaiya, thinking that the latter’s family would not come looking for her. “In a planned manner, Siddharth Varma engaged Parlaiyya for labour, took her to a secluded place, made her drink alcohol and strangled her to death,” the officer said.
West Godavari Superintendent of Police (SP) Adnan Naeem Asmi said on Wednesday (December 25) that efforts were on to find out whether Siddharth Verma’s third wife Vijaya Lakshmi was involved in the murder and whether anyone else had a role in the incident.
βThe police have certain leads in the case, and we are looking at where Parlyah was killed, how many were involved in the crime, who prepared the wooden box or where the accused bought it from, how the couple escaped from Kalla and Bhimavaram. We are focused. In committing the crime, who helped them, where the accused were hiding… and other details,β said Mr. Adnan Naeem. Hindu.
Undi, Akivedu, Kalla, Bhimavaram and Kaikalur police as well as Central Crime Station, Cyber ββCrime and other branches of police have been directed to collect all scientific evidence and witnesses in the case, the SP said.
Meanwhile, police searched the house of Siddharth Verma and Vijaya Lakshmi on Tuesday night and found a wooden box and other materials similar to the one in which the bodies were sent to Tulsi. Police are investigating why the accused kept another box. ‘We are investigating the case from all angles,’ said the SP who is monitoring the investigation.
