Bhubaneswar: Odisha Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Saturday announced strict measures to stop illegal liquor sale and ensure public safety during the New Year celebrations.
Addressing the media persons in Bhubaneswar, he emphasized that strict action would be taken against violation of Excise Act and any disruptive activity under the influence of alcohol. The Excise Department has prioritized two main areas to control the sale of illegal liquor – preventing public disturbances caused by intoxicated persons and cracking down on the sale and distribution of illegal liquor.
As the New Year festival and ‘Zero Night’ approaches, the authorities have intensified preparations including high vigilance and enforcement. The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar has also stepped up checks to maintain peace and order during the festival.
“The minister’s warning underscores the government’s commitment to ensure a safe and disciplined environment for all celebrants. Our government has always stood for curbing the sale of illegal liquor which often leads to disastrous incidents,” said BJP state unit spokesperson BN Tripathi.
