The Service Physicians and Post Graduates Association (SDPGA) has requested the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMS) to conduct transfer and promotion counseling for the posts of Chief Civil Surgeon (CCS) and Senior Civil Surgeon (SCS). The delay in the promotion of doctors – two batches of 2023 and 2024 – has led to an administrative deadlock, with several posts of CCS lying vacant in government hospitals under the directorate.
SDPGA President P. Saminathan in a letter to Director of Medical and Rural Health Services to DMS for 2023 and 2024 panels (seniority list of doctors eligible for promotion) CCS and SCS.
He said the delay in promotion of doctors from the cadre of civil surgeons to SCS and from SCS to CCS has led to administrative deadlock as many CCS posts are lying vacant. In some hospitals, the position of chief medical officer was being managed on the basis of being in charge. “Two panels are pending. Many doctors could have become CCS if they had been promoted on time. All government hospitals under DMS should be headed by CCS.
