OpenAI announced a new artificial intelligence model on the final day of its 12-day “Shipmass” event.
The AI company unveiled the 03 model, which is the successor to the o1 logic model launched in September. For special functions, the company will also introduce a smaller o3 mini model.
OpenAI has jumped from o1 to o3, leaving it as the o2 model. An OpenAI spokesperson said the reason for leaving o2 was “out of respect” for the British telecoms provider that goes by the same name.
The o3 model has reportedly outperformed previous performances set by its predecessors and has outperformed coding tests by 22.8 percent.
The OpenAI company said that the O3 and O3 mini models will be more powerful than the previous O1 models.
To regain the top spot in the AI race, OpenAI’s rival Google released Gemini 2.0 earlier this month.
