Woman arrested for theft; Gold worth Rs 12.5 lakh recovered

Last November, Kanigiri Police arrested a woman and recovered 25 firearms on the charge of stealing from a house in Kanigiri.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday (December 25), Prakasam Superintendent of Police AR Damodar said that Vemula Akhila had planned to visit her relative B Venkata Raman repeatedly and steal jewelery from his house.

When the family members of the complainant were out, the accused entered the house after looking at the keys kept under the steps and stole gold jewelery worth around 1.25 million. Akhila is a resident of Pamuru in Prakasam district, the SP said.

After the complaint, Kanigiri police registered a case and started investigation. A team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) K Nageswara Rao and Kanigiri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) M Maheshwara Rao arrested the accused and recovered the gold from the RTC depot in Ongole town on Wednesday, the SP said.
