Nagpur: Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said on Tuesday that he has expressed his willingness to resign from the post and now the party high command will take a decision on it.
Talking to reporters at the Vidhan Bhawan premises, Patole said that the Congress group leader in the state legislature will be elected today.
After the party’s worst defeat in the assembly elections in Maharashtra, party sources had earlier claimed that a senior Congress leader had requested the central leadership to relieve him of organizational post responsibilities. However, Patole clarified last week that he did not resign and that rumors were spread.
Patole said the Maharashtra in-charge of the Congress would arrive in the city on Tuesday evening, and the group leader of the party in the state assembly would be elected.
He said that the post of the provincial head will also be discussed.
When asked if he has resigned from the post of provincial chief, Patole said, “I have expressed my wish, the party high command will decide on this.”
In the recently-concluded assembly elections, the ruling Mahayutti won 230 of the 288 assembly seats in a landslide victory in the state and retained power. The opposition Mahavikas Aghadi won 46 seats while the Congress won only 16 seats.
