wife, family organized; Sent to judicial custody for 14 days

Bangalore, Lucknow: Bengaluru police have arrested three people, including the wife of tech executive Atul Subhash, who died by suicide recently, an official said on Sunday.

Nikita Singhania was arrested from Gurugram, Haryana, while his mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania were arrested from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh for abetting Subhash’s suicide, a Bengaluru police official said.

He said that they were arrested on Saturday morning and brought to Bengaluru and sent to judicial custody for 14 days after being produced in a local court.

A senior officer of the Prayagraj police claimed on Sunday that the Bengaluru police did not inform them about the arrest of Nisha Singhania and Anurag Singhania.

Subhash, 34, was found dead on December 9 at his home in Munnekolalu, southeast Bengaluru. He had left lengthy videos and notes blaming his wife and in-laws for committing suicide through “false” charges and “constant torture”. .

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said Subhash’s wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law have been arrested and placed in judicial custody. Investigation will follow.

Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Paramesh said, “He (Subhash) left a death note of around 40 pages and he has raised many issues, most importantly the misuse of provisions of the law meant for the protection of women. He has accused him of Rs 3 crore and filed a case against him, among others. He said that he was pressured for things.

Mentioning that Subhash had raised questions about ‘men’s rights’, the minister said that women’s rights were being misused and whether the law should be amended or not has become a topic of discussion across the country.

‘Questions are being raised in the country, discussions are going on. Maybe in the coming days, there should be a discussion about changes in the law both at the state and centre,” he added.

Earlier, Nikita Singhania, her mother, brother and uncle Sushil Singhania filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Allahabad High Court. The pleas came after Bengaluru police on Friday issued summons to Nikita Singhania and asked him to appear within three days.

On Sunday, the homes of Nikita Singhania and Sushil Singhania in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur looked deserted with the main gates locked, balcony doors closed and curtains drawn on all the windows.
