The Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board will soon practice geo-tagging its land properties to protect them from land grabbers, said its chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz.
Mr. Aziz was unanimously elected at a board meeting held at its Vijayawada headquarters on Tuesday under the supervision of Prakasam District Collector Thameem Ansaria.
speaking with HinduMr. Aziz said that out of the total 60,000 acres of waqf land, 32,000 acres have been encroached due to prolonged neglect.
“The Waqf Board’s main role is to generate revenue through land assets and take welfare measures for the poor. However, it has become difficult to preserve the assets, let alone generate revenue from them,” said Mr Aziz.
It is understood that the chairman of the Waqf Board has prepared a roadmap to return the land in a phased manner. “When Chief Minister Nar Chandrababu Naidu asked me to take up this role, I readily accepted the job,” he said.
“The Waqf Board could not take any meaningful decision as it was at a standstill during YSRCP’s rule,” he alleged, proposing to fix things soon.
