A person has been arrested here for allegedly threatening to kill Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and a police officer.
According to the police, Anil dialed the emergency number 112 and claimed to shoot the Chief Minister on January 26. He also threatened the station in-charge and other officers of the Izzatnagar police station, they said.
“After receiving the threat on Tuesday night, the police launched a search operation but the phone of the accused was switched off. SHO of Izzatnagar Police Station Dhananjay Pandey said that Anil was found and arrested on Wednesday after extensive efforts throughout the night.
An FIR has been registered, and the accused is being questioned. He will be produced in court on Thursday, police said.
The threats have raised tensions in the region, raising fears of communal unrest.
“Immediate action was taken to stop the escalation and maintain peace. We are also investigating the motive and mental state of the accused,” the SHO said.
Anil initially lodged a complaint with the local PRV team on Tuesday evening, claiming that his friend had borrowed his motorcycle and failed to return it, police said.
However, during the interrogation, he started abusing and threatening. Police said Anil called 112 at around 11 pm threatening to kill him.
