Two persons have been arrested for allegedly dragging tribal youth in Wayanad

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have arrested two people in Wayanad district after a tribal man was dragged on the road by a car.

The suspects, identified as Mohammad Arshad and Abhiram S, were arrested from a hideout in Kalpetta. Minister for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Communities Welfare, or Kelu, visited the victim, Mathan, at the hospital and assured strict legal action against the guilty. The incident caused a huge controversy.

Meanwhile, the police continue to search for the remaining two accused, Nabil and Vishnu, both natives of Panaram, who are still absconding. Mathan, a native of Chemmad tribal settlement in Koodalkadavu, was dragged about 500 meters after confronting the accused of harassing local residents.

Mathan, while informing the media persons at the hospital on Tuesday, said that the local residents are particularly cautious after the recent increase in drug and alcohol addiction in the area. “People have been on high alert for a few days when tourists come to Checkdam. The idea was to keep a watch on anti-social elements coming to this area,” he said.
