Two arrests involved in cattle smuggling, rescue of 33 animals

The Pallikonda police on Tuesday busted an inter-state cattle smuggling racket and rescued 33 animals being transported in brutal conditions on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway in Vellore.

Among the cows and bulls, about 30 animals were rescued. Preliminary investigations have revealed illegal transportation of animals from Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh to slaughterhouses in Coimbatore and Pollachi in Kerala.

Lorry driver 27-year-old K. 19-year-old V. from Pawan and Cleaner Karnataka. Manjunath has been arrested. The police said that the container lorry was stopped while on regular patrol at the toll gate near Pallikonda.

When questioned about the consignment, the driver gave contradictory statements.
