Six Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs from Nadia district have sent a written complaint to party supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee against Krishnanagar party MP Mahua Moitra, accusing them of promoting factionalism in the party.
In the complaint, signed by five TMC MLAs from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency and one MLA from Moitra’s former constituency Karimpur, the MPs alleged that Mahua Moitra has consistently kept assembly representatives in the dark while conducting party programmes. His constituency and involvement in “social elements” in the region have damaged the party’s image, especially among the district’s minority voters.
Among the signatories to the complaint letter are Karimpur MLA Vimalendu Sinha Roy, Chhapra MLA Rukbanur Rahman, Nakashipara MLA Kallol Khan, Palashipara MLA Manik Bhattacharya (recently granted bail in a school job scam), Krishnanagar Dakshin MLA Ujjwal Biswas and Kaliganj MLA Naseeruddin Ahmed (Lal). ).
The six MLAs have alleged that since Moitra was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in June, she has been “ignoring” her MLAs while visiting their respective constituencies and “going around with her own group of leaders”.
The MP recently reconstituted the TMC’s three block presidents, 16 area presidents and 116 booth presidents in his district “without taking the legislators concerned into confidence”.
The letter mentions that Moitra is creating ‘instability’ in Nadia district by ‘posting’ opposition groups and is not seen in any anti-BJP program in the district.
Additionally, the MLAs have alleged that Moitra has been promising several block leaders that they will field new candidates in the 2026 assembly elections, replacing the incumbent MLAs.
“It is becoming difficult for us to do party activities with him. She is disrupting party functions in the region and promoting factionalism,” said an MLA on condition of anonymity. “She has been hanging around with known anti-socials and criminals and extortionists in the area… Our party’s image has suffered a serious blow on her account.”
Apart from the CM, the complaint letter has also been submitted to Trinamool state president Subrata Bakshi, asking for disciplinary action against Moitra. According to TMC sources, a verbal complaint against Mahua was made to the party leadership after the winter session of the assembly began. The ‘afflicted’ MLAs were then asked to submit a written complaint to the party chief.
Tehatta MLA Tapas Sah and Krishnanagar North MLA Mukul Rai do not have signatures on the letter.
Meanwhile, Moitra, who is in Delhi to attend the winter session of Parliament, refused to comment on the matter. “I have no comment on this district-level garbage,” she said. – with PTI
