Three people arrested for throwing eggs at Munirathna

A video has been captured of BJP MLA Munirathana being pelted with eggs at an event in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

In yet another political tussle, Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA Munirathana was pelted with eggs after an event here on Wednesday. The police said that three people have been detained in this connection.

The BJP MLA, who is in an ongoing feud with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and his brother and former MP DK Suresh, was quick to accuse the brothers of conspiring to “kill” him, something the latter claimed he was unaware of. Attack on MLA

The attack on Mr. Munirathna comes on the heels of his arrest in Belagavi after an alleged attack on another BJP MLA, CT Ravi, and alleged derogatory remarks by Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar.

The incident took place at Lakshmidevi Nagar near Kanterao Studio in Nandini Layout around 11:30 am on Wednesday when Mr. Muniratna was leaving with his aides after participating in a public program organized to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Vihari Vajpayee.

Footage of the incident that emerged after the attack shows the MLA being pelted with an egg on his head, and immediately, the police and his followers covering him.

After the protest

Soon after the incident, he and his associates staged a protest demanding strict action against the culprits.

The MLA claimed that not only was an “acid-filled egg” thrown at him, but stones were pelted at his vehicle. Describing the Anda attack as an “assassination attempt”, Mr Munirathna accused the DK brothers of “concocting” the attack and claimed that extra police were deployed at the scene sensing a threat to their lives.

However, DCP (North) Sidulu Adawath said the police were mobilized as it was a public event in which MLAs would participate.

“The police also advised him to board the vehicle as a precaution which the MLA ignored and started walking after some people pelted him with eggs,” he said.

According to him, according to the security cover protocol, the MP was surrounded and taken to the hospital for medical examination. “We are awaiting the complaint to take further action. Three people have been arrested.”

BJP outraged

Coming in support of Mr. Munirathna, who was recently arrested on several charges including rape and out on bail, BJP state president BY Vijayendra said that people’s representatives were not protected under Congress rule. “Government will face fury if criminals are given protection,” he said in a post on social media platform X.

Both Mr. Sivakumar and Mr. Suresh, however, said they were not aware of the entire incident. While the Deputy Chief Minister, who is in Belagavi, said he was not aware of the incident, Mr. Suresh claimed it was a “drama” concocted by the BJP to blame the Congress.
