Having scored in four of his last five games, Kylian Mbappe has settled into the Real Madrid squad after a topsy-turvy start to life in the Spanish capital following his summer move to Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain.
As a World Cup winner and one of the world’s most decisive players, Mbappe, 26, was expected to be the new leading light for Madrid’s generation of young players but failed to integrate himself into Carlo Ancelotti’s system at the start of the season.
There were crucial penalty misses against Liverpool in the Champions League and Athletic Club in La Liga, where Mbappe said he had ‘hit rock bottom’ and that the setback had returned his form.
“I took a lot of positive things from the Bilbao (Athletic Club) game. I hit rock bottom,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters after Madrid’s 4-2 win over Sevilla, in which the Frenchman was on target. “I missed a penalty and I realized I had to give everything for this shirt and play with personality.”
“I can score a lot more, I know I have a lot of days left. The last few games I have played well,” added Mbappe.
Madrid coach Ancelotti has been backing Mbappe’s move to the team, which the 26-year-old believes is now complete.
“I think we know each other better now. I joined the team and it changed a lot of things. As the coach said, the settling period is over. I feel very comfortable in the team and I play well with others on the pitch,” Mbappe said.
