Suspect arrested after American tourist found dead while on vacation in Hungary

A 31-year-old American tourist, Mackenzie MichalskiHe has been found dead after being reported missing for a few days after going on vacation in Budapest, Hungary. Authorities announced Friday that a suspect in her killing has been arrested after confessing to the murder.
Michalski, of Portland, Oregon, was last seen on Nov. 5 at a nightclub in central Budapest. Security footage showed him in multiple locations with a 37-year-old Irishman known only as LTM.
The suspect, who was arrested on Nov. 7, confessed to killing Michalski after meeting him at a nightclub in a rented apartment. He said the death occurred during an “intimate encounter” and was accidental.
After the murder, the suspect tried to hide the body in a wardrobe, cleaned the apartment, and used a suitcase to take the body to Lake Balaton, where he disposed of it. Police later discovered that he had researched body disposal methods and police procedures for missing person cases.
Michalski’s parents, who had traveled to Hungary to help with the search, were shocked to learn of his death when they arrived. At a candlelight vigil, her father, Bill MichalskiExpressing his grief, he said, “There was no reason for this to happen … I’m still trying to wrap my arms around what happened … I don’t know when I will.”
