Students behind bomb threat in three Delhi schools: Police

“At least three schools affected by bomb threat emails have been victimized by their own students,” Delhi Police has revealed.

A day after the mysterious blast at Rohini Prashant Vihar PVR multiplex on November 28, one of the many schools to receive bomb threats was Venkateswara Global School, which received a threatening email.

A police official said the email was sent by two brothers enrolled in the school as they wanted to postpone the exams.

“During counselling, both the students revealed that they got ideas from past incidents of bomb threats in schools,” the official said. After warning their parents, they were allowed to go.

After reporting the email, police thoroughly investigated the school and declared the threat a hoax. According to another police officer, students of two more schools in Rohini and Paschim Vihar sent threatening emails. The reason was the same – the students wanted to close the schools.

In both cases, the students were allowed to leave after counseling and warning their parents. More than 100 schools in Delhi have received bomb threats in the last 11 days.

The police discovered that the emails were sent through a VPN (virtual private network), making it difficult for them to track down the perpetrators. Since May this year, more than 50 bomb threat emails have targeted not only schools but also hospitals, airports and airline companies in Delhi. The police have not been able to find any success in these cases.
