Delhi Police revealed that at least three Delhi schools targeted by bomb threat emails were victims of hoaxes created by their own students. The investigation of the special cell revealed that the students sent these emails to postpone the exam due to inadequate preparation.
One such case involves the Venkateswara Global School, which received a threatening email a day after the mysterious blast at the Rohini Prashant Vihar PVR multiplex on November 28. Another school in Rohini faced a similar email threat, which was also traced to a student. To avoid the test.
“After investigation, it was found that the emails were sent by students of the same school to both the schools,” Delhi Police said in a statement. “The students admitted their actions during counseling and were released with a warning to their parents.”
The students have admitted that they have come to know about this from the incidents of bomb threats in the school in the past. In both cases, the police conducted a thorough search of the premises before declaring the threat a hoax.
These incidents are a major part of the bomb threats that have affected more than 100 schools in Delhi over the past 11 days. Threatening emails sent using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) have made it difficult for police to track down criminals.
This latest surge in bomb threats adds to a troubling trend in Delhi, where more than 50 bomb threat emails have targeted schools, hospitals, airports and airlines since May. Despite ongoing investigations, no major breakthroughs have been made in these cases.
Officials are urging the public, including students, to understand the seriousness of such threats, which not only waste resources but also create unnecessary panic.
