As Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra, Naveen Jindal needed a residence that could serve as both a private retreat and a place to host official engagements. To bring this vision to life, interior designer Amina Bhatia was tasked with transforming the 4,000-square-foot space into a home that reflects Jindal’s multifaceted life.
The project came with a unique challenge – a tight 30-day deadline. The Jindals envisioned a residence that captured their shared passions and individual pursuits. “Our goal was to create a home that reflects our journey as a couple while being warm, vibrant and inviting,” said Shallu Jindal, renowned Kuchipudi dancer, art enthusiast and Naveen’s wife. For Naveen JindalA design essential to highlight his multifaceted identity as a politician, philanthropist, family man, and polo player. Meanwhile, Shallu wanted a place to celebrate Indian culture, traditional craftsmanship, and vibrant artistry.
As one of the most public-facing areas of the house, the entrance to Jindal’s house is designed to host dignitaries and meetings. Personal touches include family photos and artifacts that chronicle milestone moments in Jindal’s life.
A family retreat, the skylight area features a large indigo artwork by Kaimurai, a collage of black and white photographs, and a map of India bursting with color.
A celebration of art and textiles
The house reflects Jindal’s deep appreciation for Indian artistry and craftsmanship:
- clothes: Rugs from the Delhi Crafts Council, ikats and pieces from brands like Good Earth and Sarita Handa give the space an artistic flair.
- Crafts: Equestrian motifs, such as horse-shaped bookends, evoke Naveen’s love for polo. Antique brass artifacts, ceramics, and urns add layers of cultural depth.
- Books: The stylishly arranged volume reflects the couple’s love of reading, creating an intellectual and welcoming atmosphere.
Despite its grandeur, the house is practical and comfortable. “This home is a home away from home, warm and inviting every time we visit,” Shallu told Eddie. A subdued color palette acts as a backdrop for vibrant fabrics and artwork, making the residence a harmonious blend of heritage and contemporary design.
