Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Sunday met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and had “fruitful discussions on matters of mutual interest.”
“Arrived in New Delhi today (15th) around 5:30 PM, warmly welcomed by Dr. L. Murugan, Hon. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and other dignitaries. Had fruitful discussions tonight on matters of mutual interest with @DrSJaishankar and Mr. Ajit Doval,” Disnayake wrote in X.
Earlier, the Sri Lankan President was received in Delhi by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan. This is Dissanayake’s first bilateral visit to India after assuming office in September.
President of Sri Lanka Three-day state visit to India from December 15 to December 17. During the visit, Dissanayake will meet President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On Friday, addressing the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that this will be President Dissanayake’s first visit to India after the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka.
Jaiswal said, βThe President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake will pay a state visit to India on 15-17 December 2024. This will be President Dissanayake’s first visit to India after the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka. . During the visit, the President of Sri Lanka will meet the President and discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The President of Sri Lanka will also participate in the business event in Delhi. He will also visit Bodh Gaya. President Dissanayake’s visit to India will further strengthen the multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, he said.
In a press release, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “Sri Lanka is India’s closest maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and occupies a central place in the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘SAGAR’ (Security and Development for All.
