New Delhi: Real money gaming firms backed Skill Online Games Institute (SOGI) has demanded a 28 percent GST on platform fees instead of deposits for gaming companies in India to prevent offshore platforms from taking advantage of significant tax arbitrage.
The demand came ahead of the 55th meeting of the GST Council in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer on Saturday.
“The online gaming industry is in its infancy and the government and the industry need to work together to harness the full potential of this industry for the economy and the country.
SOGI has approached the Government of India to take forward its recommendations that will allow India to harness the full potential of this huge industry to create jobs and contribute to its GDP, while minimizing negative aspects such as addiction,” said Amrit Kiran Singh, President. SOGI.
