All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been banned from bowling in all competitions after the England Cricket Board (ECB) recently ruled his bowling action illegal, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Sunday.
Shakib was investigated for his actions after his club’s defeat to Surrey Somerset in September. It was the only match he played for the county where he scored 12 runs in the first innings and 0 runs in the second. It was initially understood that the veteran all-rounder was only banned from bowling in English competitions, but the BCB clarified that the ban applies worldwide under International Cricket Council (ICC) rules.
“Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been informed that national team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in tournaments under the jurisdiction of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Consequently, Shakib will also be banned from bowling in domestic cricket tournaments and international cricket outside Bangladesh. The suspension follows the results of an independent assessment at an International Cricket Council (ICC) accredited testing center in the United Kingdom.

“The BCB also understands that, as per clause 11.4 of the ICC Rules, Shakib may undergo further analysis at an ICC-accredited testing centre. If the results of this analysis clear his performance, Shakib will be allowed to bowl in international cricket,” BCB shared in a media release. is
Despite the bowling ban, Shakib can continue to play as a specialist batsman in any tournament. “The BCB is aware that Shakib will soon appear at a recognized testing center for re-evaluation and will try to clear his bowling action,” the BCB said.
This is the first incident since his international debut in 2006 that Shakib’s bowling action has come under scrutiny. The left-arm all-rounder has a unique double of becoming the only cricketer to score more than 14000 runs and more than 700 wickets.
Shakib’s last competitive match was on November 30, captaining the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. He remained unbeaten on 0 runs while conceding 12 runs and bowling two wickets less overs.
Shakib has announced his retirement from Tests and T20Is – his plans to play the last Test at home in the just-concluded series against South Africa were scuppered due to personal safety concerns – but he still wants to play next year’s Champions Trophy. Bangladesh.
