Salary of ‘ghost workers’ in shelter homes: BJP; AAP says no vigilance action despite complaints Delhi News

The Delhi BJP on Thursday alleged that crores of rupees were paid to “ghost workers” in shelter homes run by the Delhi government. Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj responded to the AAP by saying that the LG has not yet taken any action despite several complaints to the vigilance department.

Alleging irregularities of Rs 250 crore, Delhi BJP president Birendra Sachdeva demanded an anti-corruption wing probe into the matter and said a complaint has also been filed with the Delhi Lokayukta. ‘This scam is going on with the collusion of government employees and non-profit groups who have taken contracts for the operation of shelter homes. It involves a single person working in four to five shelter homes and receiving payment from them,” claimed Sachdeva.

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) is mandated to provide accommodation for the homeless and destitute. “According to DUSIB’s rules, each shelter has allocated salaries for five to six care workers based on capacity, which are paid to contractor NGOs. However, the BJP team’s investigation found that Detected significant fraud in the system and found that only two people were working instead of six,” Sachdeva said in a press conference. He alleged that the same names registered the same Aadhaar number and bank accounts in different shelters has been done

However, AAP said that Bhardwaj made several complaints to the Delhi Chief Secretary asking him to look into allegations of corruption in DUSIB but no action was taken. “The Delhi LG and the BJP should answer why the Vigilance Directorate, which works directly under the LG, did not take action on any complaint lodged by the minister,” AAP said.
