Many residential areas continue to bear the brunt of the recent heavy rains in the city.

Residents of Balaji Avenue in Andanallur block in Tiruchi, Visalachi Avenue and Ganapathi Nagar in Kambarasanpettai complained of flooding. Vacant land and areas around residential colonies have been inundated, raising safety and health concerns among residents. The roads dug in the area have not been repaired. These dug parts are now filled with water, so accidents happen. Due to the slippery road, the locals complain that it is difficult to drive two-wheelers and the vehicles also get stuck in potholes.

Locals complained that the flood made the hospital beyond its limits. A section of Balaji Avenue residents complained that autorickshaw drivers were demanding more due to poor road conditions. People have to travel the Tiruchi-Karur National Highway to drive, so it takes time to even reach the hospital. The problem has increased due to lack of street lights in that area.

“My six-year-old son has typhoid. To reach the hospital, one has to go to the main road, but it is a problem to travel on the damaged road. Autorickshaw drivers are charging more fares to come to Balaji Avenue. We have complained several times to the authorities to no avail,” said M. Sridevi, a resident.

“We are waiting for the road to dry so that we can improve the situation in Kambarrasanpetai. Once the funds are allocated, we will start the paved roads,” Andanalur Block Development Officer M. Shanmugam said.
