Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lashed out at the Congress over the Emergency and said that whenever democracy is discussed, “this very sin” of the Congress will be remembered. Speaking in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on ’75 years of the glorious journey of the Constitution of India’, the Prime Minister attacked the Congress and said, ‘One family of the Congress left no stone unturned to attack the Constitution.
Prime Minister Modi said that while India was celebrating 25 years of the Constitution, it had been “fast-tracked” and imposed a crisis period.
“Constitution is 75 years old, but 25 years are also important, 50 years, 60 years…when the country was seeing 25 years of the constitution, at that time, the constitution was destroyed in our country, there was a state of emergency. It was imposed, the democratic system ended, The country has turned into a prison, the rights of the citizens have been robbed, the freedom of the press, this sin on the forehead of the Congress will never be erased, when the world talks about democracy, the sin of the Congress will never be erased because democracy was strangled.
The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency on 25 June 1975.
Referring to the Nehru-Gandhi family, PM Modi accused them of “challenging the Constitution at all levels”.
“There have been highs, there have been difficulties, there have been setbacks. But once again I bow down to the countrymen for standing firm on the Constitution… I don’t want to criticize anyone personally. It is important to put the facts before the country, so I want to do that,” He said.
‘A Congress family left no stone unturned in attacking the Constitution. I am telling that one family because it ruled for 55 years in our 75 year journey, so the country has the right to know what happened. He accused the family of challenging the constitution at all levels because of the bad thoughts and bad policies of this family.
On the occasion of 75 years of the Constitution, a two-day special debate in the Lok Sabha was concluded on Saturday.
