On-campus sexual harassment investigation launched against Anna University students

In a shocking incident, a second-year student of Anna University was sexually assaulted, and her male friend was assaulted by two unidentified persons inside the university campus on the morning of Wednesday, December 25.

Initial reports suggested that the victim and his male friends, both students of the prestigious institution, were sitting in an open area of ​​the sprawling campus after attending midnight Christmas prayers at a nearby church. The assailants approached them, beat up the male student and dragged the woman into the bush, where she was sexually assaulted. The assailant fled the scene before being arrested.

The incident has sparked outrage across Tamil Nadu, as it took place on the premises of one of the state’s premier educational institutions in the heart of Chennai. Police are examining CCTV footage from campus cameras to identify whether the culprits are university students or outsiders.

The police have registered a case and are investigating.

Meanwhile, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami condemned the heinous incident.
