Visakhapatnam: AP Residential School (PTG-GIRLS) at Bhadragiri in Vizianagaram district stands as an example of how art and craft teachers can enable students to develop and showcase their artistic abilities. A total of 631 tribal girl students of the school successfully organized two art exhibitions showing their creativity and commitment.
In an interview with Deccan ChronicleKuppili Suresh Kumar, principal of the school, spoke about the importance of art education. He said, “We implemented a program to develop creativity in students through various activities including essay writing, public speaking, drawing, painting and doll making. Our efforts show that 30 percent of our students have artistic ability.”
Suresh Kumar said that all the students in Savara tribal arts, their arts and crafts teacher S. Sundar Rao demonstrated remarkable abilities as he presented through a structured, high-quality program. It featured impressive artworks at the school’s inaugural art exhibition.
Their second art exhibition coincided with a large parent-teacher meeting, attended by political representatives and officials. The exhibition showcased the creations created by the students and highlighted the importance of recognizing and promoting their artistic talent.
Almost 300 parents received greeting cards made by their children. It depicts various agricultural processes of tribal communities. Parents’ emotional responses underscored the deep impact their children’s artwork had on them.
Class teachers in residential schools are now actively identifying artistic talent in their students. They are creating a supportive environment that encourages self-expression. The headmaster of Bhadragiri Residential School said, ‘If skilled artists join our students, the nation will be proud of the artists who will come out of our institution one day.
Andhra Pradesh Tribal Welfare Residential School (PTG-Girls) in Bhadragiri conducts classes for tribal girls from classes 3 to 10 through English medium of instruction. The school has 23 outsourced teachers and one contract arts and crafts teacher.
