Notice issued to principal of Kakatiya Medical College in contempt of court case

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has issued a notice to the Principal of Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, to allow Dr MA Saif Ali, a PG medical student, to appear in the final examination of the regular MD course, accused of suicide by Dr Preethi.

High Court Justice K Laxman, while hearing the contempt petition filed by Dr. Ali, claimed that the principal of the college did not give permission even though the court had ordered the examination.

Saif is accused of harassing Preeti by ragging to such a level that she could not bear the ‘mental torture’. According to the college’s argument, there is evidence of Dr Preethi expressing her anguish with her colleagues in the form of WhatsApp chats. He wrote about being targeted and repeatedly abused by Ali for every issue leading to psychological and mental harassment. On this basis, the college suspended Ali for one year.

After the court directed the college to follow the principles of natural justice before deciding on the suspension, the college heard the incident by the anti-ragging committee and suspended him based on the findings of the panel.

However, the High Court annulled the decision of suspension on the grounds that he could not attend for more than 6 months.

The college contends that Ali was admitted to the MD Anesthesia PG course at Kakatiya Medical College for the academic year 2021-22 but could not be allowed to appear in the university finals as he did not complete the required period of study and training. Examinations as per NMC Rules and University Rules.

After Ali approached the court again seeking directions to the college, the High Court directed the college to allow the final examination in view of his presence. After the college refused to accept his application, Ali filed a contempt case against the principal of Kakatiya Medical College.
