Nine-year-old girl dies, three injured after water tank collapses in Mumbai’s Nagpada Mumbai News

A nine-year-old girl died and three others were seriously injured when a temporary water tank collapsed in Kamathipura area of โ€‹โ€‹Nagpada in central Mumbai on Wednesday. The police said that the tank was kept for the purpose of delivering water to the construction workers.

At around 11:30 in the morning, the work was being done to fill the tank to its capacity. Police said that when the tank started to overflow, a cement block fell on the people nearby.

The identity of the deceased girl is Khushi Khatun. The injured are 9-year-old Minaj Khatun, 32-year-old Ghulam Rasool Mulla and 35-year-old Nazarna Ali Hussain.

Nagpada station senior police inspector Ajay Kamble said, โ€œThe affected people lived in nearby areas. They built a temporary water tank by themselves while constructing the settlement. It was made of cement.”

The authorities were informed and the four victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Khushi died during treatment. It is said that the condition of the three injured persons is normal.

“We have started an investigation into the incident to find out the actual cause of the water tank collapse and whether safety standards were followed,” Kamble said.
