National Commission for Women has taken suo motu Report of sexual harassment of a female student at Anna University campus in Chennai
The NCW President has directed the Tamil Nadu DGP to ensure free medical care and security to the complainant; Add Section 71 of the Indian Code of Justice, 2023 to the First Information Report for stricter punishment; and take action against authorities for publicly disclosing the complainant’s identity.
“The accused is a habitual criminal, the Tamil Nadu police have failed to act in previous cases. This negligence has encouraged him to commit such crimes, raising concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu,” the commission posted on social media.
Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A Arun said the police will respond to the NCW.
