MP Chinni seeks specialized skill centers in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Vijayawada MP Kesineni Shivnath alias Chinni met Union Minister of State for Skill Development Jayant Chaudhary in New Delhi on Thursday. He appealed to the Union Minister to set up special skill development centers in Vijayawada to enhance the skills of over one lakh workers in the city’s unorganized automobile sector.

The MP stressed on helping such workers keep pace with the evolving technology in the automobile sector. He felt that the existing skill development initiatives under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana were inadequate for the needs of the sector.

Chinni pointed out that the Auto Nagar area of Vijayawada city is home to over one lakh unskilled workers involved in the automobile industry. He said, “Despite their significant contribution, many of these workers lack formal training in advanced automotive technologies, which is required to meet the demands of the industry. The establishment of dedicated skill development centers will not only benefit these workers but also open up new employment opportunities for the youth of the sector.”

The MP pointed out that notable automobile companies, such as Kia Motors and Ashok Leyland, are expanding their operations in the Vijayawada region. To meet their demand, workers need to be trained in mechanical and electrical systems including BS6 vehicle diagnostics, fuel injection systems, paint and coating techniques and the latest diagnostic tools for both conventional and electric vehicles.

Chinni said that after their meeting, Jayant Chaudhary immediately instructed the officials to submit a report within four days about the MP’s proposal. He thanked the Union Minister for his prompt response.
