New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested 415 wanted criminals, including 81 declared criminals, under Operation Crackdown conducted in the city’s northwest district from December 1 to 15, an official said on Monday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Abhishek Dhania said that the operation, involving more than 1,500 personnel, was aimed at preventing criminal activities and ensuring public safety ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The teams have arrested 81 declared criminals and parole jumpers among those arrested, the official said.
He said that action was taken against those involved in serious crimes such as theft and robbery. It has arrested 21 people involved in organized crime including bootlegging, gambling, drugs, street crime.
During the operation, 61 people were arrested in the case of drug trafficking and 53 minors who were wanted in various cases were arrested and 18 of them were involved in heinous crimes, DCP said.
He said that the social media accounts of 67 juveniles have been deactivated to stop the glorification of criminal activities through online platforms.
Similarly, 22 illegal weapons and live cartridges were recovered and 15 people were arrested. The DCP said preventive action has been taken against 81 people involved in the Arms Act case.
The district police office investigated 44 cases of cyber fraud and arrested 31 people, the official said. Significantly, fraudulent withdrawals of over 9.5 lakh were stopped.
He said that 8,545 liters of illegal liquor were seized and 127 people were arrested in a special operation against smuggling and distribution of illegal liquor. The police have taken action in 107 gambling cases and arrested 127 people.
The DCP said that 55 people were arrested in 73 cases of robbery. Over 15,000 preventive arrests were made during this crackdown and 31 out of 51 missing bad characters (BCs) were traced and arrested.
