Members of the Tamil Nadu Biwasayigal Sangam, affiliated to the Communist Party of India, staged a protest at an agricultural field in Krishnapuram in Kumbakonam taluk on Thursday and slammed the state government officials for not assessing the crop damage caused by Cyclone Fengal around Krishnapuram.

According to the spokesperson of the association, the officials of the revenue and agriculture department did not come to take the details of the damage to the crops in Krishnapuram, Andakudaiyan, Sivapuram and other settlements around Krishnapuram, where more than 60 acres of land had been flooded for a few days.

In protest against this, the members of the association and local farmers, led by Thanjavur district TNVS vice president AM Ramalingam, protested at the Krishnapuram agricultural field with rotten crops in their hands.

The protesters demanded the state government to ensure full disbursement of crop insurance amount as well as compensation of Rs 35,000 per acre. They have demanded to distribute new crop loans without delay.
