MK Stalin accused the BJP of threatening secularism and minority rights

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin accused the BJP-led central government of undermining India’s secular fabric and creating a hostile environment for minorities. Speaking at the Christmas celebrations in Chennai, Stalin alleged that the BJP was trying to destroy the core principle of secularism enshrined in the Constitution.

“The BJP government is keen to wipe out secularism and change the constitution to suit its divisive agenda. They dream of a single India defined by one leader, one party, one religion, one language and one culture, which poses a serious threat to the nation’s unity,” Stalin said. .

Despite facing defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has not changed its ways, he claimed, citing their push for “one country, one election” as part of an agenda to consolidate power and undermine India’s diversity.

Stalin, who also served as DMK president, vowed that his party would continue to act as a protector of minority rights and oppose forces seeking to divide the nation on religious lines. “Every patriotic Indian will resist these attempts. When the people of India live in equality and unity, then India will prosper,” he asserted.

Highlighting the Dravidian model of governance, Stalin pointed to the inclusive nature of the Christmas celebrations organized by the state’s Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments. He stressed the importance of treating all citizens equally, irrespective of their religion, and reiterated the DMK’s stand against the misuse of religion to incite hatred.

“BJP’s divisive ideas have no place in a harmonious India. That is why people rejected them in the parliamentary elections,” concluded Stalin.
