in The Indian Express Speakers at a round table conference held in Kolkata on Monday described the Mahakumbh as a melting pot of cultural experiences and cultures.
The topic of discussion was “Maha Kumbh: Confluence of Culture and Modern Infrastructure”, and was presented by Uttar Pradesh Tourism.
Participating in the discussion, actor Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee said that Kumbh Mela was important even though he did not believe in God and found more divinity in Rabindra Tagore’s writings.
“There is a cultural inclusion that the Kumbh Mela brings. The fair is now not just a journey, but a tourist attraction. Like Durga Puja in Bengal, the Kumbh Mela is now highly commercialized… The fair is a great opportunity to showcase local artisans, and related The government needs to understand this.”
GM Kapur of Kolkata Chapter INTACH said: “Kumbh Mela is a symbol of unity, inclusion. Pilgrims from diverse backgrounds come together for a common spirituality. Kumbh Mela is a forum for social and philosophical exchange.”
Reshmi Chatterjee, an curator, spoke about how youth can be connected or attracted to the Kumbh Mela. “Kumbha is a pot of nectar and the youth are very conscious about environment conservation or river conservation. We are going back to our roots and this is a platform for bonding. To engage the youth, schools can organize tours as it is a good place to learn,” added Chatterjee.
Professor and poet Dr. Somrita Ganguly said that she would like to go to this year’s Kumbh Mela. “If not now, when? Being a Bengali I immediately thought of Durga Puja. How do people of all castes, creeds and creeds reach the pandal and there is no one to check the identity card. Aquarius is also such a cultural experience. The fair is a melting pot of culture.”
Sanjay Kothari, founder of Just Holidays, spoke about the tourism aspect of the Kumbh Mela. “India is a place of pilgrimage and people with money are ready to spend for relaxation. This year, many tourists will visit Mahakumbh.
Mahakumbh, which is celebrated every 12 years, will be held in Prayagraj from 13th January to 26th February.
