The authors of children’s books said that literature has a major role in shaping the future of children.
On the second day of the 87th day, speaking in a session on ‘Role of Literature in Personality Development of Children’th At the Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan on Saturday, writer RD Ravindra said that children should have knowledge of stories and novels in addition to academic knowledge. In the past, grandmothers used to tell stories and take children to another world. It was helping to improve the learning ability of children.
He said that children will develop concentration by listening to stories. “Eklavya, mythology, Harishchandra and other stories would help improve their concentration level,” was the aim.
Writer Bagur Markandey said that interest in children’s literature has decreased due to the use of mobile phones and computer games. Parents should create libraries at home so that children are interested in reading books. They should stop using phones at home in front of their children.
Parents should provide popular books like Kuvempu’s Kindarijogi, Karadikunita by Da. Ra. Bendre, Tutturi by GP Rajaratnam, and Ajanakolidu by Siddhaiah Puranik.
