While listing out the healthcare institutions established by the state government in Kalburgi, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said that Kalburgi has emerged as a healthcare hub to provide quality healthcare to the underprivileged people of the region free of charge or at affordable cost.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new 371-bed facility of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Research (SJICSR) here on Sunday, Patil gave the main credit for this success to Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge. “People in the region have been aspiring for a good hospital that can provide world-class cardiac care services. Now with the establishment of 371-bed Jaidev Institute, their dream has come true. This was made possible by the cooperation between Mr. Kharge and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,” said Dr. Patil said.
“The hospital is comparable to top corporate hospitals in terms of infrastructure and quality services. This is a great contribution not only to Kalburgi but to the entire Kalyan Karnataka region. This would not have been possible without Article 371 (J) of the Constitution. We must thank Mallikarjun Kharge, late N Dharam Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and all those who fought for it,” said Dr. Patil.
Pointing out the many government-owned medical institutions operating in Kalburgi, Dr. Patil said people in and around Kalburgi need not go to Sollapur or Hyderabad in neighboring states to get high quality healthcare services. Kalburgi himself.
“We have Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences among the top eight medical colleges in the state. The hospital with 150 medical seats has been providing free healthcare services to the poor. The trauma center recently inaugurated by our government is handling severe accident trauma cases. If you go to a private hospital, you are charged ₹ 5 lakh for treatment and the same treatment is available free at this centre,” said Dr Patil.
“Besides, we will open a super specialty hospital in Kalaburgi in the next three months. The Chief Minister has approved a 200-bed mother and child hospital to be built at a cost of Rs 92 crore. The work of setting up a state-of-the-art burns unit is in progress. We are opening a branch of Kidwai Cancer Institute at Kalaburgi at a cost of Rs 72 crore. We are going to open,” he said.
A branch of Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health will be established at Kalaburgi at a cost of 92 crores.
