165 kg of adulterated tea powder seized from the unit at Chandanagar, Hyderabad; Food colors and flavors were used

The Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force (South Zone) along with a food safety team raided a tea manufacturing unit in Chandnagar, where the product was allegedly adulterated. They have seized 130 kg adulterated tea powder, 35 kg adulterated tea powder and food coloring used in adulteration in the packet.

The accused D. Chandra Shekhar, 46, who lives in Chandanagar, was found to have mixed sunset yellow color with tea powder to make high quality tea powder, police said. Cardamom flavor is also added.

The accused supplied the tea powder to Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki, Golconda, Kukatpally, Gachibowli, Tellapur, Patancheru, Lingampally, Chandanagar.

A team of the task force along with GHMC Circle-21 Food Safety Officer seized material worth Rs 1.2 lakh. The accused has been arrested.

Previously, city units had allegedly used artificial flavorings in tea powder mixed with coconut powder; The raid was done with adulterated ginger garlic paste and coconut powder.
