Thiruvananthapuram: In a disturbing incident, a tribal youth was dragged by a car for about 500 meters in Wayanad district the other day.
The police have registered a case of manslaughter against the driver of the car due to the incident that has shocked the state. After the video of a tribal youth Mathan being dragged by a car went viral on social media, the police started taking action.
The tribal youth is currently being treated at Manantwadi Hospital. Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister KR Kelu, in whose constituency the incident took place, has assured strict action.
While trying to calm down the two groups involved in the clash, tribal youths were targeted. The police said that all the accused will be arrested soon.
Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi spoke to the District Collector, demanding strict action against the culprits of the crime.
The young man who had come to see the check dam had a fight with the passengers of another vehicle at Koodal Kadavu. Later, the locals who tried to intervene were also attacked.
Mathan was dragged by the young men near the car for about half a kilometer along the narrow road.
He was pushed on the road after the passengers of the car that came behind him rushed. The tribal youth has injuries on his hands, legs and back of his body.
The police found and arrested the tribal youth Mathan’s car in Wayanad. Those involved in the violence have also been identified.
The vehicle is currently at Manantawadi station.
