The Himachal Pradesh Police on Wednesday (Dec 18, 2024) registered a defamation and fake news case against unidentified persons after seeing a video of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu encouraging his aides to eat ‘jungli murga’ (grey jungleful) for dinner. A remote area appeared online.

Attacking Mr. Sakhu, the opposition BJP underlined that ‘wild fowl’ is an endangered species listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and hunting or eating it is a punishable offence.
According to the police, a case was registered based on the complaint of Suman Chauhan, the head of Kulag Rural Municipality and Neetu Kumar, a resident.
In a video released last week, Mr Sakhu allegedly said, “Give them wild cock, I won’t eat it.” He then asks his friends if they want to eat the dish. The video was recorded in the remote Tikkar area of ββShimla district, where the chief minister was having dinner with Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandi and other officials last week, and the special dish is said to be listed on the menu.
Ms. Chauhan of the village claimed that the bird in question was not found in her area, while the Chief Minister maintained that he called it a ‘native rooster’.
The BJP has been apologizing to Mr. Sakhu despite claiming that he does not eat non-vegetarian food due to health reasons.
