How to send confirmation emails with Google Forms

How to automatically send emails to people when they submit a Google Form. An autoresponder email message can include custom notes and copy of form responses.

You have a Google Form and want to send auto-confirmation emails to people as soon as they submit the form. An autoresponder email message may include a custom note (such as an acknowledgment that you received their form entry) and a copy of the form responses they submitted.

These auto-responders are similar to canned responses in Gmail but for Google Forms. You can use technology to send welcome messages, accept support requests, and more. Here’s a sample confirmation email that was sent through Google Forms:

Send a confirmation email to the form submitter

The other day I got an email from N.Vamsi asking me how to send these confirmation emails using Google Forms?

I would love to know how you set up an auto email updater for inputs taken from Google Forms. I’ve seen your video tutorial on setting up Google Forms and getting input values on an email address but the auto email reply thing is new! Do you have any tutorials for this?

It’s easy and you can add an auto-reply feature to your Google Forms in less than a minute. Here are the steps involved:

  1. Create a new Google Form with one or more fields. You can also use an existing form but make sure you have a field where you are asking for the form respondent’s email address. This should be a mandatory field.
  2. Install the Google Forms add-on, then go to the Add-ons menu within the form, choose Email notification for forms and select Create new rules.
  3. Enter your name, choose your Gmail nickname that you want to use to send confirmation emails and check the “Information Form Submitter” option. Select the form field you are using to obtain the respondent’s email address.
  4. On the next screen, customize the email subject and message as described in the Google Forms email tutorial.

Make a rule and you’re done. When someone submits a Google Form, they will receive an automated confirmation email in HTML format and a copy of the email data will also be CC’d to you so you are in the loop.
